There are times when a family home, hospital or nursing home is not the place to care for a loved one facing a critical illness. In these cases, hospice care might be an option to consider.
What is hospice care?
Hospice itself is a philosophy of care. It treats the person rather than the disease and focuses on quality of life rather than its length. It provides humane and compassionate care for people in the last phases of incurable disease with a focus on comfort and quality of life for both patients and their families.
What is a hospice house?
A hospice house is a peaceful, home-like residence where terminally ill people are able to receive hospice care. The setting is designed to be very quiet, homey and tranquil.
When might people want to use Mitchell Hospice House’s services?
The patient does not have a residence suitable for in-house hospice/medical care.
The patient’s care needs are too complicated for family and/or friends in their residential setting.
The home caregiver is unavailable or unable to help due to surgery, illness, injury, or some other cause.
The caregiver has become too frail, exhausted, or unwell to continue to provide care in their home.
The family or patient prefers that death occur in a setting other than their home. This might be because of the presence of emotionally fragile or very young household members.
The staff of Mitchell House will work closely with area hospice organizations, physicians, and hospitals to offer the proper care for each patient. For more information, contact us by clicking the link below:
